Violent Non-State Actors Usage of Drone Technology

In the last couple of years, we witness the proliferation of drone technology among VNSAs. This technology allows VNSAs capacities they did not have before and consequently, pose a serious emerging threat. Nonetheless, it is unclear under what conditions VNSAs adopt this innovation and when they don’t.
This urgent security development has been barely addressed in academic scholarship. Moreover, when it does, research is not empirically grounded, leading to speculation and problematic policy decision. In this project we collect data on drone usage by VNSAs from open sources creating a new dataset.
